Celebrating Love, No Spoken Word Required

Congratulations to Scott & Pei!

We are so excited to celebrate with Pei and Scott, our first deaf couple. We have been working with them on their wedding planning for the past few months, and it has been an amazing experience. Our Destin wedding planners guided Pei and Scott throughout the planning process, and Pei and Scott guided our team through celebrating within their culture.

Pei and Scott met through mutual friends in 2017. After their first date at the Rossini Festival in Knoxville, Pei described their relationship as “inseparable.” Just 7 months later, Scott received a diagnosis that led to his right leg being amputated. When Scott asked Pei in that moment if she was going to leave him, Pei told him “No. I’ll never leave you because I am already in love with you, and that has nothing to do with your leg.” Pei spent countless days with Scott in the hospital and rehabilitation, supporting him. Pei says “Scott is truly the most amazing man I have ever met. He’s understanding, loving, and always there for me and my daughter.” In 2021, Scott popped the question on the beach in Destin, FL and they knew that they wanted to celebrate their marriage here on the Emerald Coast.

When SunQuest’s Kristi met Pei and Scott for the first consultation, she admits that she was nervous. “I’ve never spoken with a prospective couple who didn’t share the same language as me. Our goal is to make every couple feel loved and supported, and I wasn’t sure how to do that with two people who I couldn’t verbally speak to.” When Kristi showed Pei and Scott the Solaris Yacht, their future wedding venue, Scott made a joke with Kristi as he gestured to jump off the boat mid-ceremony. “I knew right then that we were going to be just fine,” said Kristi. “Laughter has no language barrier and Pei and Scott showed me that they don’t need spoken words to show their love.”

Pei and Scott are both passionate about deaf culture, and they wanted their wedding to reflect that. We worked with them to find vendors who were familiar with deaf culture, and we made sure that all of the details of the wedding were accessible to deaf guests.

As SunQuest’s planning process is already designed for the destination couple, Pei and Scott were able to use our online questionnaires and virtual renderings to seamlessly plan their wedding. Pei arranged for a translator to be available during phone conferences, and the SunQuest team utilized email and 3D renderings of the ceremony and reception design to ensure that every detail was to Pei and Scott’s vision.

The wedding was beautiful, and it was clear that Pei and Scott are so happy to be married. We are so proud to have been a part of their special day, and we are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate with them. We are so glad that we were able to make Pei and Scott’s wedding a truly special day. We are proud to be a wedding planning company that is inclusive of all couples, and we are excited to continue to work with deaf couples in the future.
