Planning a Wedding? Wedding Dates to Avoid in 2021 and 2022

Avoid February 6, 2022 – Here’s Why…

One of the first things that you’ll do once getting engaged, besides the basic do’s and dont’s, is choosing a date. The date of your wedding is something that you’ll celebrate every year. There are a ton of different ways to choose a date, such as a significant date to you, numerology, or just a day that your favorite venue is available. But did you know that there are wedding dates to avoid? There is nothing worse than booking a date and then learning that it’s the same day as another significant event. Once you sign on the dotted line, there’s no guarantee that your vendors let you change the date. Here are a few factors to think about when choosing a date.

Significant Family Dates

  • Close family and friends’ birthdays, anniversaries, and graduation dates
  • Dates of previously scheduled family events
  • Religious dates that your family observes
  • Dates of remembrance, like the passing of a relative or significant dates such as September 11

Local Festivals & Celebrations

Planning a destination wedding? Be sure to ask your wedding planner about local events and celebrations that might be happening. While it may be fun to host your own celebration around the same time, you might want to think about hotel availability and pricing. If your destination wedding spot is known for a particular festival or event, you might want to avoid that weekend!

Holiday Weekends

While holiday weekends sound like a great idea – hello, three day weekend! They might come with an additional cost. Events that are synonymous with fireworks can also lead to difficulty obtaining beach bonfire permits. We aren’t saying that holiday weekends are completely off the table, but here are a few dates to keep in mind.

How to Choose Your Wedding Date

Ultimately, this is your day. If you’re looking for a more cost-efficient date, consider a weekday or shoulder season month for your wedding date. Consult with a wedding planner about your best options. You might be surprised how different venue pricing can be on a Monday instead of the traditional Saturday date. Especially when planning a destination wedding, all “rules” go out the window. Your guests will double the use of your wedding as their vacation, so you might have a little leniency when hosting a Monday wedding for an extended weekend getaway.

Sending Save the Dates

The more notice that you can give your guests, the better. We recommend sending Save the Dates up to 12 months in advance. Send Save the Dates once you have a venue and a wedding planner booked. While you don’t need all of the details yet, you can still provide guests with the city, state, and accommodation information.
